Setting Up Your Website
WordPress
Hosting
WP Engine
I’ve used my fair share of cheaper hosts over the past 12 years. WP Engine has been the best host I’ve used. The technical side is a lot easier and they have much better support.
You are paying more for the service, but I prefer to spend extra and know that I won’t have to spend hours solving technical issues.
WordPress Themes
Studiopress
StudioPress are my default choice for WordPress themes. The themes are affordable, have solid documentation and the business is great with customer support.
Support
Click WP
Professional WordPress support for busy bloggers and small businesses. They offer starter packages, to help get your website up and going, as well as website support.
No Code Solutions
Carrd
Carrd allows you to create free one-page websites. This is great for creating landing pages to test ideas.
Sheet2Site
Sheet2Site is a tool that allows you to create your own website using only Google Sheets. It allows you to build a fully functional website with pictures, text, filters and links.
Newsletters
Newsletter Platforms
ConvertKit
ConvertKit becoming the leading email marketing provider amongst many of my peers. This service has proven to be very responsive to feedback and is providing the exact features most bloggers/internet hackers need.
Substack
Substack has become a popular service in the paid newsletter space. Publishing is free but they charge 10% once you start adding paid subscriptions.
Entrepreneurial Communities
Indie Hackers
Learn from the founders behind hundreds of profitable online businesses, and connect with others who are starting and growing their own companies.
Social Media:
Tailwind
One of the best ways to stand out on Pinterest is to spread out your pins. This makes sure that followers don’t get bombarded at once and that you can target people in multiple timezones. I highly recommend TailWind.
Knowledge Management
Tools
Notion
Notion is a fantastic knowledge management app that can replace some of the business/project management apps you use. However, it’s so easy to underestimate it’s potential.
Roam Research
Roam Research has grown a lot in popularity in such a short period of time. It is different to other apps in that the information isn’t nested; it is organized more fluidly. This allows for users to make different connections between types of information.
It can be difficult to understand initially, but is well worth the effort.
